Thirteen Years Later- They Finally Took Family Photos

Laughter, genuine connections, and images the whole family loves

A family of seven, five reluctant kids, and one easygoing shoot that produced honest, joyful portraits.

This beautiful family hadn’t had family photos in 13 years. A family of 7, five kids between 18 and 22 and not one of them was keen on being photographed. They were vocal about it, too: “No thanks,” “We’ll be awkward,” “You’ll never get us to smile.”

But from the second I met them, something shifted. I kept things loose, gave simple, playful prompts, and let moments unfold instead of forcing poses. Within minutes, the teens who swore they wouldn’t smile were laughing, nudging each other, and genuinely enjoying the time together. There were goofy faces, quite exchanges, and that perfect, unforced chaos that makes family photos feel real.

The final images are absolutely stunning better than I ever imagined. Natural light, candid movement, and honest expressions came together to create portraits that feel alive and personal. Even the kids asked when we could do it again, which says everything.

If it’s been a while since your last family photos, don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. Bring the people you love, a little patience, and a willingness to play the rest often takes care of itself.
